St Joseph’s College students have achieved a national best, with six students named finalists for the Lower Secondary division of the Australia and New Zealand wide Storyathon competition, four students placing in the Top 10 and one of those students taking out National Champion.
Storyathon is a free online event that challenges Year 3 to 8 students to write a microstory that is exactly 100 words.
For term two, over 20,000 stories were submitted with the theme “A Different World – Living in Lockdown”.
St Joseph’s College students Isabella Page, Isabella Dwan and Mia Ballard all placed in the Top 10 of the Lower Secondary division, with Charlotte Ballard taking out National Champion. No other school had this many students achieving in the Top 10 of a category.
Through microstories, Storyathon helps participating students focus attention on important writing features, supports students to write precisely, challenges students to experiment with words and engage within a community of learners.
