Pathway2Teach

St Joseph’s College Pathway2Teach program is an opportunity for third or fourth year students who are studying an undergraduate program or postgraduate education program, to be welcomed into our College’s Professional Learning Community.

Through engagement in Pathway2Teach our intention is to foster an environment of professional learning and educative innovation that inspires you within your development as a future educator, while also assisting in your preparation for your future career as an educator.  

Details of Educator Intern Program:

  • The Recipient will be allocated one experienced teacher mentor to support them throughout the program.  
  • The Recipient will attend one day per week for the duration of the program and be a paid casual employment arrangement. 
  • Full induction and orientation will be provided at the start of the program and continued support from Program Leader- Staff Development and mentor teacher will be provided to the Recipient and the program. 
  • The Recipient will have access to St Joseph’s College Professional Learning Framework opportunities, including engaging in one of our Professional Learning Team and Department collaboration. 
  • The Recipient will receive access to other professional learning being undertaken throughout the time of the program. 
  • The program will include opportunities to: 
  1. Observe mentor teacher practise 
  2. Observe practise of other SJC colleagues 
  3. Learn to teach lessons under the direction of the mentor teacher 
  4. Experience teaching and learning cycles including assessment practices 
  5. Receive feedback in targeted and scheduled growth meetings with the mentor teacher  
  6. Partake in College Professional Growth Planning (goal setting) with College trained facilitator  
  7. Experience the College’s values and professional culture 
  8. Assist and support student learning through long-term educative relationships 
  9. Use the College relational pedagogy framework to develop classroom management skills and grow relationships with students 
  • When with students or classes, the Recipient will always be supported by a member of the College staff and not be left as the sole supervisor of students 
  • Pre and post placement interviews will be provided, including a mock interview with the Deputy Principal and Program Leader – Staff Development 
  • A reference and certificates of completion will be provided on conclusion of the program. 

Standard Selection Criteria: 

  • Have an understanding of, commitment to, and support for the values and ethos of the Catholic school and the mission of the Catholic Church (mission and ethos). 
  • Demonstrate professional knowledge in structuring lessons to meet the student needs (AITSL APST 1 and 2 Professional Knowledge). 
  • Demonstrate a repertoire of strategies to make learning engaging (AITSL APST 4, 5 and 6 Professional Practice). 
  • Commit to maintaining currency of professional knowledge and skills, and participation in self and organisational renewal processes (AITSL APST 6 and 7 Professional Engagement)
