Languages:

  • Japanese is offered to all students. All year 8 students study Japanese and French as compulsory subjects. Each is studied for one semester. These languages are optional courses for students in year 9 through to year 12.
  • Students of Japanese have many programs to interact with native speakers through an exchange program, an assistant teacher program, Shijonawate Gakuen and Takatsuki visits in August. We also use computers to correspond mails and pictures in Japan.
  • St Joseph's College has a Sister School, Shijonawate Gakuen high school,in Osaka Japan. Every July we host over a dozen students and 2 teachers for between 2-3 weeks. We also have a trip to Japan every 2 years and every year St Joseph's is part of an exchange student program with Shijonawate Gakuen high school. A Scholarship is offered to year 12 and occasionally year 11 students as well.
  • Japanese provides students from all backgrounds with an opportunity to dramatically improve their language skills and expand the promise of their future.
